“What eternal value is gained through entertainment?” asks Steven Maxwell in his book, Preparing Sons to Provide for a Single Income Family. “Yet billions of dollars are spent on it each year. What if we were to take all the time and money Christians spend on entertainment and channel it toward winning the lost?”
Some, however, argue that Christians can be involved in the entertainment industry and win the lost at the same time.
“This is a wonderful time to be a Christian engaged in the arts…” writes Doug Phillips, president of Vision Forum Ministries and founder of the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival. “We need Christians to challenge the present culture of death, infidelity, perversion, and ethical malaise by boldly proclaiming the crown rights of Jesus Christ over every sphere of life and thought – including film. God has given us a tremendous window of opportunity. We must seize the day!”
What do you think? Is the entertainment industry a legitimate Christian endeavor?
